Dog Skin Allergies

Dog skin allergies are some of the most common problems in health in dogs. There may be many reasons and causes for this type of allergies in dogs.

Some skin health problems can vary from temporary skin issues, to long lasting or even permanent skin disorders.

If your dog has skin allergies, it is the wisest to look for a solution and cure for that specifc type of allergy.

Types of Skin Allergies:

Immune-Mediated Skin Allergies

Skin disease may result from deficiencies in immune system function. Some examples include increased susceptibility to demodectic mange, recurrent skin infections, or bacterial infections.

Canine Atopic Dermatitis

This type of allergy is a chronic allergic skin disease. You may see it in your dog usually by 10 months of age up to 2 years of age.

If your dog has this disorder, you may see he is itchy, especially around the eyes, and he is muzzle and on the feet.

Also frequent ear infections also may appear if your dog has this problem.

Some of the allergens associated with canine AD include pollens of trees, grasses and weeds, as well as molds and House dust mite.

Hot Spots

A Hot Spot is an acutely inflamed and infected area of skin irritation created and made worse by a dog licking and biting at itself.

A hot spot can manifest and spread rapidly in a matter of hours as secondary Staphylococcus infection causes the top layers of the skin to break down and as pus becomes trapped in the hair.

Hot spots can be treated with corticosteroid medications and oral as well as topical antibiotic application, as well as clipping hair from around the lesion.

Infectious Skin Diseases

If your dog allergy type is in this category, you may notice hair loss on some parts of his body - like legs.

Infectious skin diseases of dogs include contagious and non-contagious infections or infestations. Contagious infections include parasitic, bacterial, fungal and viral skin diseases.

So as you can see, this type of allergy and desease is more dangerous and you must be more careful about it.
